Julie Drake is a fashion editorial writer and copywriter with an extreme love for fashion, beautiful things, and funny memes. When she isn’t poring over the latest runway show, you can find her on a cold or hot girl walk (depending on the weather) wearing a bucket hat and mispronouncing French from the latest language-learning app. Forever in denial that she’s not actually Parisian, she’s never met a pastry she didn’t like, nor an Hermès. Her life’s mission is to follow icon Elsie de Wolfe’s lead—to “make everything around me beautiful”—and have a little fun along the way. Find her on Substack Fashionist and Instagram @juliedrakie for all things fashion and “beautiful thoughts of the day.”
As a fashion devotee and former business owner, Julie is skilled in aspirational copy that converts, fashion editorials, fashion week coverage, trend reports, and short- and long-form content on a variety of fashion-related topics.
Prior to launching her full-time writing career, she was the founder and creative director of Mimi Vie, a fashion & lifestyle brand with an ultra feminine aesthetic and whimsical brand voice. She took the brand from a debut line of nightgowns designed in-house and produced in NYC, to a full scale online shop with an active lifestyle component & cult following. She created a marketing strategy that resulted in exponential YOY growth and high CLV.
As creative director, she:
- wrote all copy for the brand and created a fun, relatable brand voice that fused fashion and humor
- implemented cohesive brand voice across all content & copy (website, PDPs, PLPs, email/SMS, social media & content)
- oversaw all marketing: email/SMS, influencer, social media & content
- managed Mimi Vie’s social media accounts and implemented popular “beautiful thoughts of the day,” and “fashion week this or that” series
- carried out many successful influencer collaborations including with Bethany Ciotola, Leanne Barlow, Cara Fox and Damaris Bailey
- familiar with various marketing tools: content management systems, ESP’s, Microsoft Excel, Google Docs/Sheets, Canva, etc.
